June 3, 2019

“I continue to love the wines from Didier Negron at Roger Sabon, yet I always feel they’re underappreciated in the market.” - Jeb Dunnuck

“The style here is a brilliant combination of the best traditional techniques married to a handful of modern nuances.” – Robert Parker

Domaine Roger Sabon was founded in 1952 by Roger Sabon and nowadays is managed by Didier Negron, who has successfully improved the qualities of the domaine in recent years. The Domaine makes some of the most terroir-driven, elegant and feminine Châteauneuf-du-Pape which can show its lovely side when young. Nowadays the domaine has expanded slowly with 18 hectares in Chateauneuf du Pape, most of the holdings are located in the northeastern part with high amount of limestone soil. They also have a few holdings in Le Crau which are famous for its red clay soil and the wines from here are blended to give the complexity and richness but remains very delicate and elegant.

We are delighted to have secured a parcel of Chateauneuf-du-Pape Reserve 2014 from Roger Sabon, having scored 93 points by Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator, with “beautiful notes of black raspberries, blackcurrants, tapenade and cured meats" (Wine Advocate), this is “hard to put aside” (Wine Spectator). 93 pts Wine Advocate

A big step up, the deeper ruby-colored 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape Réserve has solid mid-palate depth and medium to full-bodied richness, with beautiful notes of black raspberries, blackcurrants, tapenade and cured meats. I’d happily drink bottles over the coming 7-8 years. - Jeb Dunnuck

93 pts Wine Spectator

A gorgeous beam of dark blackberry and raspberry coulis flavors streams through, inlaid with dried anise, black tea and graphite notes. The long finish is velvety and defined. Hard to put aside, but this will blossom even more with cellaring.
