Earlier today we have shared the offer on the legendary Chambertin from Armand Rousseau, which we strongly believe the 2006 is well-worth consideration; however, if you are looking for a quality Chambertin that has a lower price-point, here is one to consider - Pierre Damoy Chambertin Clos de Beze 2014.
If you have visited Burgundy before and have walked between Chambertin and Clos de Beze, there is this old farm house in Clos de Beze that is owned by Domaine Pierre Damoy. They are the largest owner in Clos de Beze who has a gorgeous 5.36 hectares parcel, selling part of his grapes to a few domaines and keeping part of them to produce his domaine’s label. They shouldn’t be overlooked in your Burgundy wine hunt as they are producing some of the fuller-bodied, most extensive and complex Clos de Beze and at only ~17% of the price of Rousseau’s Clos de Beze. Wine Advocate’s Neal Martin has tasted both of them and showed a lot of appreciation towards Pierre Damoy, saying the Clos de Beze 2014 “was one of the highlights of the entire tasting”, further saying that “you just have to stop and admire the clarity of the aromatics here”.
If we put it side by side with Rousseau, it's plain and clear which one you would go for, only unless you are a die-hard fan of Armand Rousseau -

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Damoy's 2014 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru was one of the highlights of the entire tasting. It has a showstopper of a nose with brilliantly defined black plum, cranberry, wild strawberry, sous bois and minerals. You just have to stop and admire the clarity of the aromatics here. The palate is extremely well balanced with a fine bead of acidity interwoven through the black cherry, cranberry and raspberry fruit. There is the structure and masculinity of a Clos de Bèze, and yet it is certainly not unapproachable at this premature stage. Fabulous. You can feel the mouth still tingling long after the wine has departed. Quite brilliant. Tasted September 2017.
