Musigny Grand Cru 2014 | Marchand Tawse (1*75cl)

93-96pts BH -

"A pungent nose of wood and reduction render this impossible to read. Otherwise there is flat out sensational size, weight and richness to the overtly powerful yet refined flavors that exude plenty of minerality on the austere, backward and ultra-serious finale that just goes on and on. As my suggested initial drinking window confirms, this is a very, very structured wine and particularly so for the 2014 vintage that is going to require fully two decades to arrive at its apogee. But it should be a true 'wow' wine when it finally gets there!"

93-96pts VI -

"(just 400 liters made; Marchand aged this wine and the Bonnes-Mares in barrels made by ANA Sélection from oak from the Fontainebleau forest; destemmed by hand): Healthy dark red. Musky, saline aromas of raspberry, minerals and mocha. Thick and velvety but with terrific mineral lift and a restrained sweetness to the raspberry, saline and crushed-rock flavors. Large-scaled, tactile wine with a three-dimensional texture that made me shiver. Finishes with a palate-saturating chewiness that makes it hard to spit. This will require a good decade of cellaring."
