Chanson Pere & Fils is one of the oldest and most successful negotiants in Beaune since 1750. It was managed by the Chandon family until it was sold to Bollinger in 1999, and nowadays most of the facilities have been improved thanks to the financial arm of the famous Champagne house. They acquired organic certification in 2009 and they now have a shareholding of about 45 hectares with major holdings in Cote de Beaune.
This week, we have a small parcel of Chanson Beaune Clos des Mouches 1er Cru Rouge 2009 that just arrived and this offers particularly good value considering the fantastic work from the domaine, great terroir as well as vintage performance. It was awarded 90-92 pts by Allen Meadows who put it as an “outstanding” sample to highlight. An outstanding bargain –

Mild reduction hides the nuance of the fruit but not the fact that it's quite ripe. This ripeness extends to the rich, refined and mineral-driven middle weight flavors that possess a relatively delicate mouth feel and excellent length. This is a wine of finesse, which is rare in 2009.
