We have two exciting purchases last week and believe these are nice buys! 1999 Chevalier-Montrachet is in excellent condition and it is extremely difficult to source nowadays; and 2006 Corton-Charlamagne received an impressive 96pts from Allen Meadows, who said that it is “one of the finest examples from this appellation in the 2006 vintage.”
Both wines are listed at the lowest market price# today and only 6 bottles of each are available -
1999 Bouchard Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru [SOLD OUT] HK$2,100 per bottle Special Offer – HK$1,800 per bottle (Best Market Price#) 92pts Allen Meadows Wonderfully intense fruit liberally laced with citrus and minerals, especially wet stones. This too, as one would expect, is rather unexpressive today with its reserved but impressively detailed flavors and a terrific palate feel. The wine is ripe but this is more of a background nuance because of the pronounced acid structure, which serves to emphasize the strong citrus and mineral character. Quite powerful and extremely long and this too will need time but should amply reward the patient.
2006 Bouchard Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru [SOLD OUT] HK$1,350 per bottle Special Offer - HK$1,290 per bottle (Best Market Price#) 96pts Allen Meadows A reserved, indeed even reluctant nose of fresh and stony green fruit and citrus aromas that offer real depth leads to precise, minerally and exceptionally powerful full-bodied flavors that possess huge amounts of dry extract on the hugely long finish. This is still sorting itself out but the quality of the raw materials is impeccable and it possesses impressive potential, which will require at least a decade to realize. One of the finest examples from this appellation in the 2006 vintage.
