“The village wines, including those from Marsannay, routinely outperform most premier crus from the northern Cote de Nuits. And they are reasonably priced” – Stephen Tanzer
“Roty wines are very distinctive. They are full, very intense, very perfumed and very harmonious. They are certainly immensely seductive.” – Clive Coates MW
Joseph Roty has been making wines since 1710 and the production has remained minuscule for over 300 years. The Roty family maintain their very old vines in which some were planted in the 1880s and still use very traditional ways of winemaking to this day. Despite having a very low profile, their wines never fail to amaze everyone and can always show the characteristics of a traditional Gevrey-Chambertin. Their wines usually have high concentration and full of dark fruits' purity, seamlessly integrated with their usually high usage of barrels.
