While Chablis, Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune are the regions offering the finest examples of Chardonnay, Domaine de la Bongran from Macon is one of the hidden gems of Chardonnay in Burgundy. Macon lies furthest south of the five sub-regions and therefore, has a slightly warmer climate. The wines produced are therefore simpler, with a focus on fruit, but much less minerality and depth; however, wines from Domaine de la Bongran is not the case - they are richer, fuller and more complex. The current owner and winemaker of Domaine de la Bongran, Jean Thevent, was one of the handful of people who were first credited for implementing organic, minimal and natural practices in their productions back in the 1980s. His father noticed the great potential in the Viré Clessé appellation so he bought more surrounding parcels and sold off other flatland property, and nowadays Bongran's Quintaine is known to be one of the best of the area.
Despite the amazing quality from Bongran, the price tag is extremely friendly. Today we are happy to offer their 2014 Viré Clessé at HK$265 per bottle for your consideration - highly recommended -
