Bollinger makes some of the most full-bodied, rich and powerful style Champagne among the top houses. With a Pinot-dominant style, use of barrel-aging and being slightly oxidative, they have a great following around the globe. La Grande Annee is one of their most famous cuvees, and its vintage 2008 is one of the biggest releases of the month. Usually tends to be more open than Bollinger R.D., La Grande Annee gives drinkers enjoyment even when it’s still young. Renowned Champagne critic Richard Juhlin is certainly a big fan of this cuvee, scoring it 96-98 pts and told all his readers to “buy a box and follow its aromatic journey to heaven”.
We have sampled a bottle earlier this week and it offers plenty of “wow” factors. This has developed a strong backbone to build up this to be a very top Champagne, giving all the necessary components as a young, recently-released cuvee. It’s quality is highly comparable to its counterparts such as Louis Roederer Cristal 2008 and Dom Perignon 2008 yet it has a more teasing price tag.
Currently at best local market price#, we have the last 36 bottles to offer until stock lasts -

96-98pts Richard Juhlin “Buy a box and follow its aromatic journey to heaven”
“Of the three bottles I so devotedly enjoyed before the rest of the journalism world had time to pounce on this rare treasure, two were somewhat tied up initially in the scent while the third showed off the impressive peacocks tail in its full glory at once. Regardless of the development phase, this is a regal and heroic Bollinger characterized by restrained power and energetic energy. I love meeting this untouched force and carefully analyzing its sublime elements, but at the same time I have to admit that we are dealing with a real "vin de garde" that will not reach its maximum capacity before its 25th birthday. The structure is impressive, based of course on the high acidity of the vintage in the first place. This very high acid means that the other building blocks can appear as subordinate, but they have a great wealth of both oak embossed secondary aromas and flaunted dark fruit. At present, the aromatic spectrum is characterized by fresh hazelnuts from Piedmont, green apples, critical minerals and perfumed orange blossoms. Buy a box and follow its aromatic journey to heaven.”
