Jean-Michel Chartron is the 5th generation of the family and manages some excellent parcels of vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet including Grand Crus such as Chevalier-Montrachet and Batard-Montrachet as well as three other Premier Crus. Among these parcels, there are two monopoles in which one is in Chevalier-Montrachet - Chevalier-Montrachet 'Clos des Chevaliers', a holding of about 46 acres just above Le Montrachet - superbly situated and often matches up to the quality of this world-renowned neighbour.
Allen Meadows has perfectly summarized Chartron’s house style below –
“Chartron noted that his approach is to pick his fruit by hand on a mix of good ripeness levels but importantly, with good acidities. He does very little in the way of lees stirring while raising the wines in 100% wood where between 5 and 35% of it is new. The wines are then fined and lightly filtered and bottled after an élevage period of 12 to 18 months.”
The 2013 Chevalier-Montrachet is no exception and is scored only 1-point lower than the top-scoring Ramonet Chevalier-Montrachet by Allen Meadows (Burghound) -
The Jean Chartron is extremely rare and only few bottles remain available in the market so is seriously worth considering -

94pts Allen Meadows
The super fresh and airy nose offers up cool strikingly complex aromas of white flower, spice, wet stone and various orchard fruit scents. The 2013 version of this wine is unusually powerful with the same excellent mid-palate concentration as is displayed by all of the grands crus in the range while delivering superb depth and length on the impeccably well-balanced finale. This is extremely promising but note that patience will be required if you wish to see this wine's full potential revealed.
Jean Chartron also manages a monopole in Puligny-Montrachet - Puligny-Montrachet 'Clos du Cailleret' 1er Cru - and they are absolutely beautiful wines that you shouldn’t miss -

92pts Allen Meadows “Outstanding”
Once again there is enough sulfur present on the nose to warrant decanting this if you're tempted to try a bottle young though I would not expect there to be a problem if this is held for a few years first. Otherwise the underlying aromas possess notes of acacia blossom, citrus and various white orchard fruit scents. Just like the Pucelle this has a positively gorgeous mouth feel where the generously proportioned medium weight flavors are more mineral-inflected while offering outstanding persistence on the delicious and sappy finale.

92pts Allen Meadows “Sweet Spot Outstanding” Ripe yet cool and elegant aromas are composed by aromas of acacia, essence of pear and apple compote. There is once again fine volume to the sleek, elegant and refined flavors that exhibit more obvious mineral influence as well as slightly better depth and length as well. A wine of class and grace.
