Having tasted a few fantastic textbook examples from Volnay, we believe Volnay shares a lot of similarities with Chambolle-Musigny in that they are too smooth and delicate, and is probably one of the friendliest wines for all drinkers. They are also usually on the feminine side, with charming red fruits and floral notes that give ultimate enjoyment when young, and there are a lot of nice productions which are made in very high quality and have potential to age.
A domaine in Volnay that you should definitely keep in mind is Domaine de la Pousse d’Or. A crowned domaine and currently owns 3 Premier Cru Monopoles in Volnay which are Clos de la Bousse d’Or, Clos des 60 Ouvrees and Clos d'Audignac.
We have secured a parcel of Clos de la Bousse d’Or from the fantastic vintage 2009 and think it will appeal to everyone. Patrick Landanger, who was fortunate to take over the domaine following Gerard Potel’s death in 1997, and has since put in hard work and investment into the domaine. After years of hard work, he has been able to retain the quality and produce some fantastic examples from Volnay in which Volnay Clos de la Bousse d'Or 1er Cru 2009 is one of best examples. Vinous Antonio Galloni gave this bottle a tremendous score of 96 pts (a very rare score for Volnay!), and said it has “almost unrestrained expression of Volnay”; and Burghound’s Allen Meadows also gave it 93 pts, and described it to be “a firm, long and serious finish that possesses real verve”.
This indeed worth every reader to pay attention to and this is an excellent opportunity to explore one excellent Monopole from a vintage of perfection -

96pt Antonio Galloni
The 2009 Volnay Clos de la Bousse d'Or presents a wild, almost unrestrained expression of Volnay. It is a sumptuous wine graced with stunning beauty in its opulent fruit. This shows marvelous detail and clarity with palate staining intensity. Despite its richness, there is plenty of vibrancy and freshness.
93 pts Allen Meadows A slightly more refined nose speaks of red berry fruit that is liberally laced with notes of cassis and blue berry while introducing rich and even more elegant medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a firm, long and serious finish that possesses real verve. This beauty should amply reward a decade of cellar time.
