Have you ever tried a Chardonnay white made in the United Kingdom? The weather is generally too cool in the UK to grow vines so the British had always had to source from the Southern side of France, Italy and Spain. However, there are in fact some good quality sparkling and white wines being made in the Southern part of England. One of which is Simpsons Estate - a new and innovative producer in Kent and we can confirm it is astoundingly good after tasting it on different occasions.
Simpsons Estate was established in 2014 and the estate started growing their own Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir in Kent. One of the vineyards called The Roman Road is situated on the sunny, sheltered slopes of the North Downs of Kent. Vines are grown on chalky soils which gives distinct mineriality to the wines. The grapes produced here are usually used to produce sparkling wines but the best grapes are used to make some exclusive still white Chardonnay which is highly limited in quantity.
An expressive Chardonnay and full of energy, this is simply brilliant and not to be missed -
