Unarguably one of the top white wine producers in the world, Dominique Lafon of Domaine des Comtes Lafon took over the domaine in 1985 in which he was given decent parcels from his family, including vines in Montrachet Grand Cru as well as 6 Premier Crus in Meursault. Since then, he has made the domaine so successful that it has become the go-to for those looking for top Chardonnay. In 1995, Dominique started to adopt organic practices and became biodynamic from 1998. Their Chardonnays are seductive, powerful wines that never lack of expressiveness; and every bottle tells a unique story about the vintage and displays distinct characteristics of the terroirs.

Good bright green-tinged yellow. Aromas of mirabelle, white flowers and smoky oak. Large-scaled and thick but not yet elegant or shapely. In the solid style of the year but still youthfully monolithic. This finished its malolactic fermentation later than the Perrieres and needs to refine itself in barrel. But possesses the strong acidity and sappy, palate-staining length to make a great bottle.

Bright, light yellow. Musky, inviting aromas of orange zest, ginger and quinine. Dense, solid, spicy and fat but quite dry. Much tighter and stonier than the Charmes, showing outstanding inner-mouth tension as well as a more obvious phenolic component. Very backward.

Palish yellow. Aromas and flavors of ripe peach, lemon and smoky minerality, plus an element of vanillin oak. A wonderfully broad, sweet, seamless 2015 with surprising lift and no impression of undue weight. Not quite as smooth as the Genevrières but more explosive in the middle palate. Finishes wonderfully fresh and long, with piquant spicy lift. Should be outstanding.
