Joseph Drouhin, a powerhouse in Beaune that started as a negotiant in 1880, now owns ~60 hectares of vineyard in Bourgogne including some of the most renowned around the globe - Beaune Clos des Mouches, Chambertin, Clos de Beze, Echezeaux, Musigny, etc. Making all their wines in a perfectionist manner, Joseph Drouhin are a reliable name to follow for both reds and whites. The house style captures the purity of fruits and with shorter aging period in oak and earlier bottling to preserve the charming fruitiness and reflect the terroir in which the grapes were from; specifically on whites, they are pure, offering complete cleanliness in the palate.
One of their most highly-demanded whites is Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Marquis de Laguiche. The terroir is owned by the Laguiche family, but has been exclusively passed to the Drouhin family to cultivate and distribute. According to Drouhin, the 2015 vintage is “ripe and its aromatic structure is supported by its acidity balance. From charming to more intense, deep and complex”.

The 2015 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Marquis de Laguiche has a tightly-wound, oyster-shell tinged bouquet that seemed a little timid following the 2015 Beaune Clos des Mouches Blanc. The palate is very well balanced with a touch of praline on the entry, quite tensile with an edgy, fresh lime and sliced pear note on the finish. This is showing good potential and the aromatics will have awoken by the time it is bottle.
