A large Grand Cru appellation boarding a few impressive terroirs such as Le Musigny in the North and Les Amoureuses in the East, Clos Vougeot has an area over 50 hectares, divided into 100 different parcels owned by more than 80 producers, with varying qualities and style that sometimes make people feel confused and disappointed with bottles they buy. Consider this a minefield for beautiful Burgundy requiring serious selection. You know you have got hold of one of the best Clos Vougeot if you observe an intense color, accompanied with sophisticated earthy bouquet with dark berries, mint, licorice and truffle in the palate. Though not an easy selection, Clos Vougeot is probably the cheapest Grand Cru you can find among the renowned estates, and when you compare the price against its neighbours like Musigny, Amoureuses, Richebourg and Romanee St Vivant, it really is worth the extra effort. So when you come across an excellent producer who makes Clos Vougeot, it's safe to say it would be a wonderful wine to treasure.
Domaine de la Vougeraie is one of these great examples that makes beautiful Clos Vougeot. The parcel of Clos Vougeot was managed by Pascal Marchand in 1999 and in 2006 passed to Pierre Vincent, Domaine de la Vougeraie has been consistently making fantastic Clos Vougeot wines year after year. From an exceptionally well positioned 1 ha parcel situated directly beneath Les Petits Musigny that is combined with another less well located .35 ha parcel close to the main road, Antonio Galloni has said that their Clos Cougeot is a “deep, dense, powerful and earthy” wine with “pure depth and resonance that stand out”. With 93-95 pts awarded by Galloni, we are able to offer a tiny parcel of 18 bottles at only HK$915 per bottle if you buy 3 bottles or above -

The 2012 Clos de Vougeot is deep, dense, powerful and earthy. Here, it is the wine's pure depth and resonance that stand out. I imagine the 2012 will start to drink beautifully in a handful of years, once the tannins start to soften a bit.

This is notably fresher than the Clos du Roi with its pretty aromas of earth, game, dried flowers and assorted red berry scents. There is a pungently earthy character to the broad-shouldered, intense and muscular flavors that are shaped by relatively fine-grained tannins before concluding in a powerful and persistent if not especially complex finish. This isn't as powerful or dramatic as the Clos du Roi though I prefer the balance and overall sense of completeness.
