Last week during our team Christmas dinner, we pulled out a bottle of Jean-Claude Belland Chambertin 1996 and find this offers superb value! We purchased the whole case directly from the domaine in Oct, which means these bottles had been sleeping in Jean-Claude Belland's old cellar since it was bottled therefore had been enjoying the best storage condition, and the labels were adhered just before the bottles left the cellar 2 months ago.
A family in Santenay, Jean-Claude Belland has taken over the domaine from his dad since 1996. They own some beautiful terroirs in Santenay and Corton, and also a 0.4-hectare parcel of vines in Le Chambertin. Jean-Claude Belland tends to apply less oak influence to the wines, only using around 50% new oak barrels and age the wines between 18 to 24 months in them. In 2010, Jean-Claude Belland's precious Chambertin vineyard was acquired by Armand Rousseau so you can tell how much potential his terroir has to make fantastic wines.
Only HK$1,050 for a bottle of Le Chambertin, we only have last 8 bottles in stock to offer, having perfect care from the domaine in last 20 years, this will be well-worth your consideration -
Jean-Claude Belland Chambertin Grand Cru 1996
HK$1,050 per bottle (8 bottles in stock, Ex-domaine Oct 2017, perfect labels and level)
92 pts Burgundy Cave
Medium bodied, the Chambertin takes about 2 hours to breathe, then afterwards offers nice violet, red cherries and dried floral aromas. Mild acidity and light and beautiful in the palate. Not a muscular Chambertin but the Jean-Claude Belland Chambertin shows how elegant a Chambertin could be. If you are a fan of mature Burgundy, this is certainly one with superb value.
