Gérard Boudot, the son-in-law of Etienne Sauzet started managing the 12-hectare Domaine since 1975 and now works with his daughter Emilie and her husband Benoit Riffault. Etienne Sauzet is highly regarded as one of the domaines who offers great quality and nowadays still retains reasonable prices. Gérard Boudot makes their wines with considerable oak, with 1er Cru and Grand Crus usually kept in oak barrels for 18 months, it strikes a great balance with the complexity of the wines and produces fuller-bodied flavors with weight and volume for aging. We have recently purchased 6 bottles of Puligny-Montrachet "Les Combettes" 2007 - the highest-scoring Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru from Etienne Sauzet in 2007, this has been also remarked by Allen Meadows as “Sweet Spot Outstanding” and “may be the most refined in recent memory”. This is a fabulous choice for drinkers who look for ready-to-drink Puligny Montrachet -
Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet "Les Combettes" 2007 HK$830 per bottle (6 bottles available) 93 pts Allen Meadows “Sweet Spot Outstanding” Here the nose is notably more reserved though just as pure and ripe with a similar nose of white orchard fruit along with spice, lemon and floral hints that complement to perfection the rich and full-bodied flavors that are tautly muscled and possess ample size, weight and volume as the mid-palate is blessed with ample extract on the palate staining and mouth coating finish that seems to go on and on. There have been bigger and more powerful vintages for this wine (1999 and 2005 for example) but 2007 may be the most refined in recent memory. Subject to final confirmation. Available in 3-4 weeks.
