Perhaps there's not as many great examples from Pommard as there are from Gevrey-Chambertin or Vosne-Romanee, but there's one in particular that we want to introduce to you if you don't already know – Domaine du Comte Armand's Clos des Epeneaux, the best Pommard domaine and certainly a monopole dating back to 1826. Domaine du Comte Armand’s Clos des Epeneaux is the best kept secret among Burgundy connoisseurs all over the world. Comte Armand is a name to remember among the top list of Burgundy domaines and, in our thoughts, their top wine Clos des Epeneaux is very reasonably priced.
Interestingly, Domaine du Comte Armand recruited two top rising stars in Burgundy between 1985 and 2007. Pascal Marchard managed the domaine from 1985 to 1998, who then started his own domaine Marchand-Tawse which makes mouth-watering Musigny and other wines. After 1998, Benjamin Leroux took over the domaine and was praised by Allen Meadows that he “might be a natural heir of Henri Jayer”. Even the Burgundy writer Jasper Morris wrote that “If Pommard can be an elegant wine, then the Clos des Epeneaux is the vineyard to demonstrate it”. I opened a bottle of Comte Armand Clos des Epeneaux 1990 last week and it was absolutely stunning! It tasted better than the other bottles from other top domaines we opened that night. Considering this is the flagship wine from the domaine as well as all across Pommard, we highly recommended to collect a few whenever you come across excellent offers! Besides the 1990, we have a few 2004 that have arrived in stock too, ready for delivery immediately after confirmation.

There is a firm tannic backbone yet the tannins are fine and this should age well. Comte Armand Pommard Clos des Epeneaux Monopole 1990 (only 1 bottle left) HK$1,690 per bottle (In Stock)
