It is widely agreed that 2015 is a perfect vintage for red wines in Burgundy and the release prices have been soaring that makes a lot of us hesitant to pursue the vintage; however, there is a gem that we shouldn't miss - Launay Horiot.
A domaine in Pommard which acquired very small parcel of vines in Chambertin as well as Latricieres-Chambertin, Launay Horiot is some of the few top scoring wines from Allen Meadows for the 2015 vintage. With 95 pts for Chambertin and 94 pts for Horiot’s Latricieres-Chambertin, the Chambertin was described to have “terrific complexity" and "clearly built-to-age“ and Latricières-Chambertin was said to be a "textbook Latricières". We are sure at the current market price they are exceptional and giving extraordinary value. Just comparing the same vintage against those of Armand Rousseau and Dugat Py, you will see why this is worth to try -
Domaine Launay-Horiot Chambertin Grand Cru 2015 (from a 0.16 ha parcel)
HK$3,250 per bottle
HK$3,000 per bottle for case of 6*75cl
95 pts Allen Meadows
A brooding and reticent nose trades less elegance for more complexity as the dark berry fruit, game, smoke, spice and distinctly earthy aromas are trimmed in a deft application of wood. As is typically the case with Chambertin, there is more size, weight and power if not necessarily more minerality to the focused, delineated and explosively long and very firm finale. There is terrific complexity and while this is clearly built-to-age, it should be more than worth the wait. In a word, marvelous.
Domaine Launay-Horiot Latricières-Chambertin Chambertin Grand Cru 2015 (from a 0.16 ha parcel)
HK$1,950 per bottle
HK$1,800 per bottle for case of 6*75cl
94 pts Allen Meadows
Here too there is just enough wood to warrant pointing out, but not so much as to detract from the equally cool and perhaps even more elegant aromas of red and dark currant, freshly turned earth and a whiff of forest floor. The sleek, intense and beautifully refined middle weight plus flavors exude evident minerality on the saline, gorgeously long and impeccably well-balanced finish where a touch of youthful austere appears. Textbook Latricières.
