Sandwiched between Gevrey-Chambertin and Vosne-Romanee, Chambolle-Musigny is a small village that possibly makes the most magical and fascinating wines of Burgundy. Chambolle-Musigny is the favorite village of many Burgundy experts and Clive Coates is not shy to show his love to say “I too find myself irresistibly seduced”. Although not the deepest in color, a good Chambolle-Musigny possesses fantastic aromatic profile, and the palate is surrounded with stunning exotic red fruits and floral that could magically keep changing glass after glass.
Every terroir in Chambolle-Musigny is different. The small village has two Grand Crus Le Musigny and Bonnes Mares. Le Musigny produces some of the most expensive wine in the world, while Bonnes Mares is a great wine to drill into – wilder in style as it is close to Morey-St-Denis, deeper and bigger in structure and comparatively lower price. Some may also strongly believe that les Amoureuses should be rewarded with Grand Cru status – explosive perfume and feminine, word has it that drinkers would have illusions of a beautiful lady when having a nice Amoureuses. With careful selection, there are many good examples of 1er cru and village in Chambolle-Musigny, however you must pick a reliable producer that you are confident to follow.
Today we have sorted out a great selection of Chambolle Musigny for you if you have not been amazed by Chambolle-Musigny yet, or if you know your Chambolle-Musignys, these are great picks that would certainly consider to put into your cellar. It doesn’t need further explanation with many of these – from the best producers including Domaine Leroy, George Roumier, JF Mugnier, Comte de Vogue, and you should not miss Domaine de la Vougeraie’s Chambolle Musigny 2014 (we think they are the best village wine of 2014!) as well as Jadot’s Amoureuses and Frederic Cossard Bonnes Mares (only 285 bottles produced).
