Recommendation after a Chambolle Musigny Tasting - Jadot Amoureuses and Bouchard Bonnes Mares

We have some recommendations after an enjoyable tasting in one night during the past weekend which included les Amoureuses from Louis Jadot, Lucien Le Moine and Moine Hudelot and also a bottle of Bouchard Bonnes Mares. There were two that really stood out among the tasting – Louis Jadot les Amoureuses 2013 and Bouchard Bonnes Mares 2007, which we would highly recommend you keep either one or both in your fridge.

Before we pulled out the cork, everyone was worried that the 2013 Amoureuses would be too young to drink but it proved them wrong. This Amoureuses has a lot of development potential indeed, but the aroma was ultimately charming in the Zalto Burgundy glass, perfume, feminine and elegant. This is a classic Amoureuses that is already drinking well now. A personal favourite of the night.

Then the bottle of Bouchard Bonnes Mares 2007 had a remarkable performance that night - smells of pepper, thymes and plum; structured, complex and dense. It can easily stand out from any Burgundy tasting even against a Mugnier or Comte de Vogue Bonne Mares, even more being only 1/4 of their price. This is a classic effort from Bouchard and a top value wine that you will not likely able to get later.

Louis Jadot Chambolle Musigny les Amoureuses 2013

HK$1,950 per bottle (3 bottles available)

93-95 pts Neal Martin

The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses has a very elegant, persuasive bouquet that exudes the essence of Pinote. There is great transparency here, a slightly lighter style of Amoureuses with red cherries, strawberry and minerals. The palate is medium-bodied with very lithe tannin that belie the structure underneath. Sure, there is some new oak poking through on the finish, but given several years in bottle, this should be a very fine Amoureuses.

Bouchard Bonnes Mares Grand Cru 2007

HK$1,350 per bottle (2 bottles available)

95 pts Allen Meadows

A serious, tight and brooding nose though aggressive swirling coaxes intensely floral, pure and elegant notes of very ripe black cherry and currant that merge into broad-shouldered and well-muscled flavors that offer excellent volume and concentration, all wrapped in an explosive and moderately austere finish. This is flat out terrific and blessed with huge amounts of dry extract. This should age extremely well but note that it is a wine for the very patient.
