Blanc des Millenaires is the top wine of the Charles Heidsieck house and has only produced only a handful of vintages over the years with the 1995 being the latest release. This is indeed a top Blanc de Blancs in 1995, which has enjoyed massive appreciation from top critics – 95pts from Antonio Galloni, Richard Juhlin, Stephan Reinhardt and Wine Spectator; and 18.5pts (out of 20) from Jancis Robinson, who believes it is as good as Dom Perignon 1995 and Louis Roederer Cristal 1995, even better than the benchmark Krug 1995 which was rated 17.5 pts.
There's no doubt it's worthy of these high ratings as it's simply a masterpiece from the Cote des Blancs in a legendary vintage - made from a selection of Chardonnays from 4 Grand Crus and 1 Premier Cru exclusively from the Cote des Blancs and matured in their 2000-year old chalk cellars for over 15 years. The result offers a rich aroma of dried and candied fruits, with deep, heady notes of beeswax and nougat. Very expressive - voluptuous, velvety and delicate as well as being smooth and sensual. In addition, there are also strong notes of caramel and mild hints of almond milk, complemented with subtle notes of vanilla and cedar wood.

The 1995 Brut Blanc des Millenaires shows just how compelling this often overlooked vintage can be. Layers of lemon, pastry, spices, crushed rocks and savory herbs literally jump from the glass. An exquisite, perfumed, beautifully delineated Champagne, the 1995 shows lovely flavor complexity and nuance from its extended time in bottle, yet it also retains plenty of freshness, verve and acidity. This is a great showing from Charles Heidsieck. The 1995 was made before the tenure of the house’s current team, headed by CEO Cecile Bonnefond.
