Though you might have heard the fascinating story of a young and talented winemaker Maxime Cheurlin who took over the Domaine Georges Noëllat at a tender age of 20 in 2010, more than 27 years ago (pre-1990), this Domaine was owned by his grandfather, the Georges Noëllat, who was the nephew of Charles Noëllat - one of the founders of the "first" Domaine Noëllat which was also one of the greatest domaines in Vosne Romanee at the time.
During Georges era, he produced wines from Grands-Echezeaux, Echezeaux, Les Beaumonts, Les Petit Monts, Les Boudots and which were also provided to Maison Leroy. Most of his wines were consumed locally thus not many wine lovers in other parts of the world would had heard of this Domaine back in the days.It was in 1990 when he passed that his wife sold off most of the Domaine's production to Louis Jadot and Joseph Drouhin, and managed the remaining to continue his work.
As complex as it sounds, their wines were produced with much promise - grapes were harvested by hand, de-stemmed, punched down rare and gentle, and used new oak of 30% up to 100%. The wines were generally without fining or filtration.
