"...I continue to find his best bottles to be among the sexiest wines produced in Burgundy..." - Stephen Tanzer's comment on Dominique Laurent
Dominique Laurent focuses on buying old vines across many appellations in Bourgogne in which most of the wines are negotiant arms and Dominique Laurent works with the growers very closely to ensure the quality of the grapes. He believes that Vieilles Vignes (old vines) gives the complexity and texture to the wines so his style in winemaking is also distinct in which he applies more oak than most other winemakers in Burgundy, making his wines powerful, richly-flavored and complex.
Most will know and it is widely agreed that the Chambertin and Clos de Beze are the best of the other Grand Crus that have "Chambertin" as part of their name. Being a prestigious Grand Cru popular around the globe, wines produced from this terroir does not normally come with a small price tag. However, with the skillful hands of Dominique Laurent, his production of the Chambertin Clos de Beze not only garners acclaim with wine critics, the price is much more approachable when compared to other producers. We have found a spectacular parcel of the Clos de Beze from vintage 2013 and it was scored a point higher than Armand Rousseau by Stephen Tanzer, but just 20% of the price! -
Dominique Laurent Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru 2013 HK$1,950 per bottle 95 pts Stephen Tanzer Moderately saturated medium red. Knockout nose combines liqueur-like raspberry, rose petal and pungent minerality. Velvety, wonderfully concentrated and utterly seamless on the palate, offering outstanding silky richness for the vintage but with perfectly integrated acidity energizing the middle palate. A 2013 of transcendent sweetness and depth, this outstanding Clos de Bèze is the longest of this set of 2013s. The ripe tannins are virtually invisible today owing to the wine's extraordinary fruit sweetness.
