Domaine Jean Grivot is among the greatest names in the world of Burgundy. Located in Vosne-Romanee, they have an ownership of 155.5 hectares spread across 22 appellations, including 3 Grand Crus: Clos de Vougeot, Echezeaux and Richebourg, 8 Premier Crus including the much lauded Beaumonts and Suchots and also some village and Bourgogne.
The Domaine was passed down from Jean Grivot to his son Etienne in 1987, and in 2017, Etienne passed the torch to his talented, educated and passionate daughter, Mathilde, who has brought a fresh approach to this fine domaine while keeping the long time tradition of the Grivot family in which the quality of wine stems from meticulous vineyard work throughout the year to grow healthy, ripe fruits with good depth and flavour. Today, the vineyards are densely planted and farmed organically “sans certification,” while the aim in the cellar is for balance and clear expression of terroir. They believe in farming with minimal impact to the environment and eschews the use of chemicals in the vineyard. Their holdings in Richebourg, Echézeaux, Beaumonts, and Suchots are all ploughed using a horse as opposed to using machines to minimize the impact on the soil. The grapes are entirely destemmed and after fermentation, the wines are pumped over once a day before aging in barrel for 15 months; then depending on the vintage, the proportion of new oak is around 25% for the villages appellations, 30-40% for Premier crus and 40-45% percent for Grands Crus. Today we are excited to be able to offer Jean Grivot's Richebourg Grand Cru 2000 which was scored 94 points by Allen Meadows back in 2015 which he concluded to say that this is "an excellent and still improving 2000". With another 6 years of ageing, this Richebourg 2000 should have now evolved to the next level and offering even more depth and enjoyment! Arriving in just 4-6 weeks, let us know if you are interested to secure this as only very limited quantities are available -
Jean Grivot Richebourg Grand Cru 2000 HK$7,800 per bottle ETA 4-6 weeks 94pts Allen Meadows There is just a hint of bricking present on the rim. This is now beginning to display some secondary characters along with ripe notes of plum, earth, dark berry fruit and subtle spice elements. There is very good concentration to the intense and well-detailed medium-bodied flavors that possess a clean mouth feel and fine length on the balanced if mildly austere finish. This caressing effort is still on the way up though it's not so far away that you couldn't enjoy a bottle now if you were so inclined. In sum, this is an excellent and still improving 2000.
