Today we are excited to bring you an extensive list of wines from three top players in Burgundy - Domaine Leroy, Comte Liger-Belair and Georges Roumier! The list includes a selection from village up to Grand Cru levels, and from vintages going back as far as 1992. These are highly treasurable wines that are worthy of some space in any cellar.
Domaine Leroy: Madame Lalou-bize Leroy is the producer of Domaine and Maison Leroy and has been the top figure in Burgundy for many, many years. Wine Critics have not been shy to confirm her status in the region - Robert Parker said she “stands virtually alone at the top of Burgundy’s quality hierarchy”, while Clive Coates MW commented that Leroy is "the greatest estate in Burgundy". Under Madame Lalou-bize Leroy's perfectionist approach to the vineyard as well as the estate, there is no doubt that remarkable quality of the wines are produced from Leroy across their owned vineyards (labelled "Domaine Leroy") and sourced grapes (labelled "Maison Leroy"). Choosing only the best vineyards and grapes in disregard of cost, production is minuscule across the board and due to its global popularity, their wines are generally hard to source, let alone back vintages, so you should not miss any opportunity to secure a few when they come available.
Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair: A top producer in Vosne-Romanee which owns a number of the very best vineyards in Vosne-Romanee, Louis-Michel Liger-Belair decided to rebuild the family in 2000 so he took back the control of their family-owned lands in 2000 and made Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair into a top-class domaine in Vosne-Romanee after Domaine de la Romanee Conti. Most of the bottles are sold with strictly controlled allocation to wine connoisseurs, restaurants and merchants, which makes their bottles nearly impossible to find in the open market.
Georges Roumier: One of the top names to follow for Chambolle-Musigny nowadays, founded in 1924 by Georges Roumier, he was succeeded by his son Jean-Marie in 1957 and now managed by his grandson Christophe, who joined his father in 1982 and took over completely in 1992. Christophe has since taken the Domaine to the next level. With the ultimate care given to the vines combined with the heavy and intensive craftsmanship, their wines stand out among all other producers in Chambolle-Musigny - pure, seductive and fruit-forward with no hard-edges across their portfolio. Patience is required for such a great name but their quality is inarguably extraordinary from its basic wine to Grand Cru.
