Following our offer of Henri Giraud's MV10 earlier this month, we are pleased to bring to you more from their Fut de Chene range - the Fut de Chene 2000 and the MV15.
Henri Giraud is a prestigious and the oldest Champagne house that is still owned by its founding family - the Giraud-Hémart family - who has farmed vines at Aÿ since 1625, and well known for producing rich, extensive and powerful wine. However, it is only since current head Claude Giraud took over that the wines have been released under the family name. The flagship release is the rich, voluptuous Fût de Chêne, a Pinot Noir-dominant Champagne blend. Their wines are 100% oak-fermented and the house insists on producing with oak casks from the forest in Aÿ to impose the forest terroir into the wine, giving it one of the most unique flavors among all Champagnes. One of their most notable creations is their premium “multi-vintage” cuvee called "Fût de Chêne" which is a blend of around 70-75% Pinot Noir and 25-30% Chardonnay, with the grapes coming only from the best Grand Cru sites, and aged in oak casks for a minimum of 12 months before peacefully lying down for another 72 months until they achieve the best integration of fruits and oak.
The Fut de Chene 2000 is made with base wine from Vintage 2000, and was disgorged in 2008 and released in 2009, so it has now received a further 12 years of bottle aging, allowing it to gain in further complexity and multi-dimensional enjoyment to its drinkers. Awarded with 94 points by Antonio Galloni who commented it to be "drop dead gorgeous", it is almost impossible to find in the market nowadays, so we are excited to be able to offer 5 bottles of this gem today. Also on offer, the MV15 also scored 94 points by Antonio Galloni and is "bright and focused" and restocked whenever we can. Check out the details below -
Henri Giraud Fut de Chene 2000 (Base wine from Vintage 2000, Disgorged in 2008)
HK$1,850 per bottle, 5 bottles available
ETA 4 weeks 94pts Antonio Galloni The 2000 Brut Fût de Chêne is the last in a series of wines that goes back to 1990. Honey, almonds, chamomile and dried apricots all flesh out in a rich, textured Champagne loaded with personality. Aging in oak gives the wine much of its power, breadth and pure richness. There is a lot to like in the 2000 Fût de Chêne, although I have to admit I like the direction of the new MV bottling a bit more. Still, this is a drop-dead gorgeous wine. Warm, oxidative overtones add a baritone register to the finish that is highly appealing. The 2000 is 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, vinified in oak barrels, 20% of which were new. Henri Giraud Fut de Chene MV15 (Individual Gift-box) HK$1,150 per bottle, 18 bottles availableETA 8 weeks 94pts Antonio Galloni The MV 15 Aÿ Grand Brut is stellar. Bright and focused, the MV 15 captures the striking interplay of energy and richness that is found in the Giraud Champagnes today. At its essence, that is what Aÿ is all about. Bright saline notes underpin a core of apricot, mint, plum, coffee, flowers and chamomile. Subject to final confirmation.
Delivery is free-of-charge for single purchases above HK$3,000 or 6 bottles (or accumulated amount at time of delivery); otherwise, a standard delivery fee of HK$80 applies.
