The eldest son of the honored white winemaker in Saint-Aubin, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey set up his own winery under his own name after working in his father's domaine for over 10 years. Given his talent and influence from his father, he quickly made a name for himself and became one of the most highly sought-after labels in the world of Chardonnay. He applied new methods in his own domaine - using larger barrels (350-litre), no battonage (lees stirring) in the winemaking process and top his wines with wax - all of which aim to avoid premature oxidation as well as making pure, elegant and precise wines which genuinely express the characteristics of the terroirs. Due to the popularity of his wines, it is not easy to source his bottles, especially back vintages so it is always a good idea to pick up a few bottles whenever they are available.
Today we are pleased to bring to you his Chassagne-Montrachet Les Ancegnieres (aka "Encegnieres") with selection of vintages from 2013, 2015 and 2017. Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey's Les Ancegnieres is an exceptional choice as the grapes come from vines aged 80 years and over, and the climat just borders that of the renowned Batard-Montrachet (as you will see in the map below) but with a much more accessible price. A bottle of Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru goes easily above HK$6,000 per bottle, for example, the 2017 vintage market price is HK$7,650^ and the 2015 is HK$6,782^, so with the Les Ancegnieres starting from just HK$1,080 per bottle, this offers exceptional value for money! -
