Set up by Michael Telftree and Richard Mintz in 1999, Two Hands was established with the aim to break the mould and showcase the diversity of Australian Shiraz instead of the formulaic style of Shiraz being sold around the globe at the time. Michael and Richard wanted the fruit to be the primary feature of the wines, and be able to highlight regional and vineyard characteristics. Michael makes all the picking decisions based on flavour and tannin ripeness in early morning walks through the harvest season from February to April each year. They practice minimal intervention and oak handling in order for the character of the fruit to shine through. Six months after vintage, every barrel in the winery is blind tasted by Michael and the winemaking team and given a classification grade from A+ to D and anything C or below are not used in Two Hands' final production. With this focus on detail, it means only the best barrels make it through and quality is maintained even in the toughest vintages, albeit at lower quantities.
The first vintage was in 2000, and by the end of 2004, they built a state-of-the-art winery which was designed for small batch handling to allow for greater quality control and revolutionised the winemaking capabilities and increased production. More varied sources of Shiraz from the Western Ranges in the Barossa were added to the mix and broadened the complexity and palate to choose from. Their wines have won widespread appreciation from leading wine critics around the globe including, but not limited to, Robert Parker, Jancis Robinson, and James Halliday; and further testament of their outstanding qualities came in 2012 when they were named in Wine Spectator's Top 100 for the 10th consecutive year.
Today we are pleased to offer their My Hands cuvee from the 2005 vintage. The cuvee is made from Shiraz sourced from Marananga, and aged for 38 months in new wood, and only three barrels were produced. This was awarded an astonishing 97-100 points by Robert Parker at Wine Advocate who stated that this is "voluptuous" and "sexy", and 96 points by Stephen Tanzer. Now available at Best Price in the World^, we have this immediately available from stock! Good to drink now, and will also age further up to 2030.
