Since the foundation in 1843, Krug has had a longstanding reputation for the quality of its champagnes, most especially for its Vintage and Grand Cuvee productions, with a strong global following from wine connoisseurs and Champagne lovers. Richard Juhlin, the renowned Champagne writer, has always been a fan of Krug. He says that their Champagne "stands for artistry, tradition, craftsmanship and moments of pure pleasure" and "are small masterpieces… If the opportunity arises, never miss the chance to drink a Krug!”.
Today we are pleased to offer two Krug selections for your consideration - Krug Vintage 2004 and Krug Rosé 24th Edition. Their Vintage Champagne has always come in highly limited quantities in comparison to most other Prestige Cuvee Champagnes as they have been extremely discerning in when a vintage champagne should be produced. Because of that, when one is released, there is a solid guarantee on its quality. Due to the worldwide demand, however, prices for Krug Vintage go up fairly quickly upon every release. The Krug Vintage 2004 was scored with 97 points by both Wine Advocate and Antonio Galloni, in which Antonio urged readers who can find this bottle to "not hesitate, as it is a magical bottle".
As for Krug Rosé, it is a delicate blend of wines of the year with wines from selected plots of the House’s vast reserve library, completed with traditionally macerated Pinot Noir to add structure and spice. A rest of around seven years in Krug’s cellars gives Krug Rosé its refined elegance and character. This particular edition - the "24ème Édition" - is a blend of 22 wines from 7 different years, the youngest of which is from 2012, while the oldest dates back to 2006, composed of 40% Pinot Noir, 32% Meunier and 28% Chardonnay. It was completed with 11% traditionally macerated Pinot Noir of the year from a special plot in Aÿ to add colour, vivacity and structure. Awarded 97 points by Wine Enthusiast and 96 points by Wine Spectator, both tasted in late 2020, this is a bottle ready to drink now, but also good for further ageing.
Krug Vintage 2004 HK$1,900 per bottle 12 bottles available, Immediately available from stock
97pts Wine Advocate Combining subtleness with complexity, the coolish Krug 2004 Brut opens with a highly elegant, fascinatingly clear, bright and refreshing bouquet of ripe (apple) fruits. Dense and round, with a delicate mineral soul, the pure but perfectly balanced 2004 reveals great finesse and weightless elegance with a long and round finish. This is a gorgeous Krug vintage that is 14 years old but still on the rise. Tasted from ID 316034 in New York in November 2018. 97pts Antonio Galloni Krug's 2004 Vintage is absolutely mesmerizing. Layers of bright, chiseled fruit open up effortlessly as the wine fleshes out with time in the glass. Persistent and beautifully focused, with a translucent sense of energy, the 2004 captures all the best qualities of the year. Moreover, the 2004 is clearly superior to the consistently underwhelming 2002 and the best Krug Vintage since 1996. Readers who can find it should not hesitate, as it is a magical bottle. (Dec 2017)
Krug Rosé 24th Edition NV (w/ Gift-box) HK$1,850 per bottle 12 bottles available only, Immediately available from stock
97pts Wine Enthusiast The balance between maturity and fruit in this Champagne is exemplary. It gives both ripeness to the red-currant fruits and a fine nutty richness that meld together seamlessly. This is a beautiful wine, perfectly ready to drink but also sure to age well in bottle. (Dec 2020) 96pts Wine Spectator A richly fragrant rosé Champagne, leading with grilled nut and ground coffee notes, segueing into exotic saffron and curry spice aromas that season the palate's panoply of poached apricot, toasted brioche, spun honey and crème de cassis flavors. Shows a fine, satiny mousse, with a bright spine of acidity that creates a long, mouthwatering frame for the expanding profile. (Nov 2020)
