A historic and famed producer of Barolo in the north-western Italy region of Piedmont, Giacomo Borgogno & Figli was established back in 1761 by Bartolomeo Borgogno, and began exporting its wines all over the world in 1920 after Cesare Borgogno took over management of the winery. Their estate covers about 39 hectares, 8 of which are cultivated with woods and 31 with vineyards in which they possess ownership of five of the best Barolo cru sites: Liste, Cannubi, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Fossati and San Pietro delle Viole. They are best known for its single-vineyard and Riserva Barolo wines, which are some of the most sought-after and expensive wines made in the region. They are famous for holding back some of their wines for more than a decade before releasing them to the market. One of the most notable sales of their Barolo goes back to the auction of their 1886 vintage Borgogno Barolo which was sold at a record high sum ever reached by any Italian wine. Though the winery was sold to the Farinetti family in 2008, they continue to follow the traditions strictly, and since 2010, Andrea Farinetti has taken over the company's leadership.
