In late 2008, Domaine de la Romanee-Conti entered into an agreement with Domaine Prince Florent de Merode to lease almost 6 acres of vineyards on the hillside of Corton which allows them to produce three grand cru red wines – Corton Bressandes, Corton Clos du Roi, and Corton Les Renardes – a spectacular addition to their 61.75acres of prime grand cru vineyards and their very first red wines that DRC produces from the Cote de Beaune region. DRC’s Co-Director Aubert de Villaine said of the vineyards, “These vineyards are situated in the heart of the historic part of the appellation with a good proportion of old vines. These two factors give a high potential to produce great wines.”
Aside from the location and age of the vines, DRC was also impressed with the condition of the Corton vines, which was greatly attributed to the amazing work of Didier Dubois who joined the Domaine as vineyard manager in 1997 and took over winemaking duties in 2001 driving vast improvements in the Domaine’s wines. Therefore, DRC decided to take on Dubois to continue to manage DRC’s lease holdings together with their vineyard manager Nicolas Jacob.
Today we are pleased to offer a few selections of the wines from Domaine Prince Florent de Merode from the three Grand Cru wines produced before 2008, which are perfect opportunities to get a taste of the beautiful wines that are created from these treasured terroirs at more approachable prices (a bottle of DRC Corton 2009 now values at over HK$17,000 per bottle^!) -
