Louis Roederer is one of the very top Champagne houses in the world, and their Cristal is one of the most highly sought prestige cuvees. The cuvee and the distinctive flat, clear lead crystal glass bottle design was first made in 1876 to satisfy the demanding tastes and safety needs of Tsar Alexander II. Produced only during the best years, when the Chardonnay (around 40%) and Pinot noir (around 60%) grapes have attained perfect maturity, it is aged for 6 years in Louis Roederer’s cellars and left for a further 8 months after dégorgement, but the recipe is slightly changed based on the growing conditions of each year. Every release offers a powerful and multi-dimensional Champagne that amazes every drinker's senses.
Their amazing quality keeps us on the constant lookout for more and one of their most notable vintage that we keep restocking is their 1999. Even Jancis Robinson commented that the 1999 vintage is "reminiscent of great vintages like 1970 and 1982" and scored Cristal's 1999 with a high 19 points! Many other wine critics also favoured this vintage such as Wine Advocate who scored it with 98pts and said that this is "one of the finest champagnes I have ever brought to my lips".
Arriving in early April, we have a small parcel of Louis Roederer Cristal 1999 to offer at a special price of just HK$3,000 per bottle. With prices rising as bottles get consumed and less available in the market, it is not a bad idea to stash a few of these in your cellar whenever available! -

One of the finest Champagnes I have ever brought to my lips, the 1999 Cristal bursts from the glass with fresh hazelnut and apple scents. Elegant, deep, and silky-textured, this medium to full-bodied beauty is immensely concentrated, pure, packed with apple flavors, and astoundingly long in the finish. Louis Roederer does not display a disgorgement date or consumer friendly lot number on its non-vintage Brut. This is regrettable as it has consistently been one of the finer bottlings in this category.
19 out of 20 points Jancis Robinson The exceptional maturity of the harvest (lowest acidity since 1959), along with the quality and quantity was reminiscent of great vintages like 1970 and 1982. Disgorged 2011. 57% Pinot Noir. Dosage 8 g/l with the same wine. Lovely richness on the nose with real spread of crème pâtissière but very tight and refreshing too. Very satisfying. At peak and very flattering. Long and fresh. Spreads opulently but not dully across the palate. So complete. Such lovely neatness.
