Established in 1857 by Alexandre-Louis Pommery who unfortunately passed away just a year after establishment, the Champagne house was left to his widow, Louise, to manage in which she successfully led it on to success and glory. The Pommery estate has an underground cathedral 30 meters underground and phenomenal cellars which were built on ancient crayères dug by the Romans 2000 years ago, and each cellar was named by Madame Pommery to pay tribute to her customers around the world. After she remarried, the Champagne house remained in the family until the late 1980s when they sold the Champagne house to various groups, and finally to the Vranken Group in 2002. One of the house's iconic productions is Pommery Cuvée Louise. It was created as a tribute to Louise Pommery, and is made with 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir grapes from the most beautiful plots - all Grand Crus - in Avize, Cramant and Ay. The Cuvée is a pure wine that shows great craftsmanship and is the perfect example of the amazing quality that one would expect from Pommery.

This well-aged wine from a top Champagne vintage is just now ready to drink after 12 years. It has a touch of toast, but it’s the rich, complex texture and fine structure that set it apart. It’s not a dry wine, it feels soft. It is so well integrated, elegant with hints of apples, a layer of minerality and still-fresh final acidity. (Dec 2014) 18.5pts Jancis Robinson Very pretty. Not flashy but finely sculpted. (May 2017)
