A fantastic domaine in Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Fourrier was first established by Fernand Pernot in the 1930s/1940s and previously known as Pernot-Fourrier. Unmarried and childless, Fernand passed the domaine down to his nephew Jean-Claude Fourrier and, in 1994, to Jean-Claude's son, Jean-Marie Fourrier who was only 23 years old at the time. Despite his young age, he had already been working with his father on the domaine since 1989 and had completed internships with Burgundy legend Henri Jayer, as well as at Domaine Drouhin Oregon.
Most of Fourrier wine comes from Gevrey-Chambertin but there are also wines from Morey-St-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny and a great Vougeot 1er Cru, Les Petits Vougeot Vieille Vigne. All of their wines are labeled "Vieille Vigne" as most vines were planted between the World Wars. Young, meticulous and believes that the best wines are made in the vineyard, Jean-Marie practices minimal intervention - no crushing of grapes, no cold maceration before fermentation, uses indigenous yeasts and uses only around 20% of new oak - all of which helps the true expression of each terroir and offers excellent balance, finesse and complexity.
