The Prieur family started buying vineyards in the late 19th century, and with the financial help by the Labruyère family in later days, Domaine Jacques Prieur now enjoys a fantastic holding of Grand Crus such as Musigny, Montrachet, Chambertin, Chambertin Clos de Beze, Clos de Vougeot, Echezeaux and Corton; and they also own three monopoles in Volnay, Meursault and Beaune. Since joining the domaine in the late 1980s as the winemaker, Ms Nadine Gublin has successfully pushed up the quality, making it one of the serious challengers to top-tier producers in Burgundy.
Today we are pleased to offer their Beaune Champs Pimont 1er Cru Blanc 2017 and Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2014, which are both beautiful vintages for their respective grapes. The Beaune Champs-Pimont is a large plot which produces both red and white wine, but the Chardonnay is planted on the upper part of the slope with chalky soil which gives its mineral characteristics and unique personality and often a salty flavour on the aftertaste. Grapes are used in whole bunches and aged in oak barrels for 19 months. Its 2017 vintage is elegant and has a touch of anise and toastiness with a refreshing sapidity and salivating on the finish. For the Clos Vougeot, grapes are totally destemmed and aged in oak barrels for 20 months, the 2014 offers notes of black fruit, tobacco, nutmeg and roast on the nose and dense, thick with liquorice and spicy flavours, and spicy tannins.
