There is always huge anticipation with every release from the Grande Marques, but most rightly so for Dom Pérignon's latest release of their vintage 2010 as this is the very first vintage that was fully managed by Vincent Chaperon, the house's new Chef de Cave. Though hailing from a family of Pomerol in Bordeaux, Vincent Chaperon decided to establish his career in Champagne, and was given the opportunity to work alongside the house's previous Chef de Cave, Richard Geoffroy, since 2005, on 13 harvests and 4 vintages - the 2005, 2006, 2009 and the 2008. Having taken the reins from Richard in January 2019, he spoke of his dreams for Dom Pérignon. Despite keeping to the house's style and traditions, he aims to also "push the boundaries, to make the wine grow, to make it more intense, deeper, longer, wider” as said during an interview with Hong Kong Tatler last year.
The 2010 was a challenging vintage due to the rigorous Winter, dry and late Spring and the huge downpour of rain after a mildly hot Summer which led to development of mold on the grapes. Not many Champagne houses dared to declare a vintage, but with Dom Pérignon’s amazing technique and experience, they were able to create a beautiful Champagne even under these less desirable conditions. They raced against time and made quick and precise decisions in which every little decision counted towards the make-or-break of the vintage. They carefully selected Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from 17 Grand Cru sites and the iconic Hautvilliers Premier Cru to create this very unique vintage, and kept the wine in their cellars for 8 years before they disgorged it last year, allowing the Champagne to develop and gain the complexity to become this stunning 2010 Champagne that we know we will love.

It’s very subtle and focused at the end... Good depth. Reminds me of the 1995... Lovely to drink already, but will age nicely.
18.5pts out of 20 Jancis Robinson
Amazingly, obviously, Dom P on the nose – the powerful lemon-mousse nose came soaring out of the glass long before my nose got anywhere near it. Definitely not a weak vintage of Dom P.
