Château de La Tour is the largest landowner in Clos de Vougeot, currently owning 5.48 hectares of vines, total 6 hectares if including the Château. The Château itself was built in 1890, and today serves as the winery for both Château de La Tour and Pierre Labet wines. Pierre Labet’s son François took over the direction of both Château de la Tour and the family estate in 1984, in which he was actually the first member of his family - which dates back at least 500 years in Nuits-Saint-Georges - to direct viticulture and winemaking in the Clos de Vougeot, as formerly the property was always run by resident managers instead. The Château is the only owner that produces their Clos-Vougeot from the vines within the walls of the Clos, and their grapes are fermented in whole bunches and then matured in French oak barrels for 16-18 months and for 2012, 50% new oak was applied. The quality remains consistent from late 1990s and the qualities have steadily improved over the years and remains an excellent value Burgundy.
