It's probably not hard to name some of the most popular names in Meursault - Coche Dury, Arnaud Ente and Roulot - but these do not come without some hefty price tags. If you are looking for some decent wines from Meursault that does not break the bank, Domaine des Comtes Lafon would be one of the very best names to follow.
The Domaine has a long history dating as far as back as the 1860s, but it wasn't until the 1960s that the Domaine started bottling their own wines with part of the vineyards leased out to other growers; and in 1993, the leases expired and the family regained full control of all vineyards. They own some of the best vineyards in Meursault and Volnay, and are cultivated under biodynamic principles with no use of herbicides or other chemicals. Under the current owner, Dominique Lafon, who took over the domaine in 1987, the Domaine has gained a glorious reputation for producing outstanding Meursaults including that of Perrières, Charmes, Genevrières, Clos de la Barre and Désirée, in which they are well-known for their astonishing depth and complexity, but still retains at relatively accessible prices given the quality it offers nowadays.
