Offered a few weeks ago, we are pleased to let you know that we have purchased more of the Hospices de Beaune (Lucien Le Moine) Meursault-Charmes 1er Cru Cuvee de Bahèzre de Lanlay 2009 and they are arriving tomorrow!
Lucien Le Moine is an entrusted winemaker for Hospices de Beaune and has been participating in the auction every year. They are a micro-negotiant but highly regarded, buying premium grapes from only 1er and grand cru growers to produce what is currently considered one of the most highly collectible Burgundy reds and whites. Set up by Mounier and Rotem, Lucien Le Moine produces a wide range of wines which are all aged in a cool and humid cellar that is rarely found in Beaune and they claim to undergo the longest fermentation in Burgundy, making their wines complex, powerful and always age well. This cuvee Bahèzre de Lanlay was named after Louis de Bahèzre de Lanlay who was an inspector of telegraph lines and donated his fortune to the Hospices de Beaune in 1884, enabling the construction of a surgical block and an old people’s building. It is the larger of the two Hospices Cuvees of Meursault-Charmes and the more mineral cuvee than the other, with fruits coming from very old vines.
