Domaine Ponsot has long been one of our favourites as every bottle we've tasted has left a very positive, memorable experience, plus their innovations in bottling and packaging over the years have been truly admirable. Laurent Ponsot developed a remarkably unique style in his wines that give them the distinctiveness among other top producers in Gevrey-Chambertin and his wines are brilliant from Grand Crus down to the Villages. With an average age of their vines being 50 years old combined with Laurent's expertise, Domaine Ponsot's wines are concentrated, powerful with hints of rich, exotic and spicy notes.
With Laurent Ponsot's decision to leave the family in early 2017, we are looking forward to his new negotiant business under his own name but his beautiful work during his time at Domaine Ponsot will never be forgotten and always be treasured by many wine lovers. Today we are pleased to offer a few selections from Laurent's era, including the domaine's flagship red - Clos de la Roche - from 2008, Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru 2014 and a special 2013 assortment case which consists of 12 bottles packed beautifully in an original wooden case -
Ponsot Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 'Cuvee Vieilles Vignes' 2008
HK$2,850 per bottle
6 bottles available, ETA 2-3 weeks
94-96pts Allen Meadows
Heavy reduction blocks the nose though it's possible to discern that beneath the funk lies very ripe fruit. By contrast, the vibrant and powerful big-bodied flavors are wonderfully fresh and culminate in a robust and well-muscled finish that avoids any rusticity because of the huge amounts of dry extract on the palate saturating finale. I really like the sense of perfect balance plus the combination of a textured and velvety mouth feel juxtaposed against the precision and tension of the flavors and finish. In a word, terrific (but lots of patience required).
Ponsot Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru 2014
HK$1,100 per bottle (Best Price in the World^)
6 bottles available, ETA 3 weeks
91-93 pts Allen Meadows “Outstanding”
This is all but aromatically mute though aggressive swirling succeeds in eventually revealing wisps of red currant, cherry, raspberry and discreet floral hints. There is once again a lacy mouth feel to the vibrant and delineated medium-bodied flavors that possess notably better depth and length on the wonderfully refined finish. In sum this is textbook Charmes.
