With a history dating as far back as 1731, Bouchard Père et Fils is one of most famous winegrowers, négociants, and producers based in Beaune. They hold the finest plots in Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, in which more than two-thirds hold Grand Cru and Premier Cru statuses. Since the acquisition by Henriot in 1995, it has been pushed to the top echelon of Burgundy producers and quality has further improved since the first-ever gravity-flow winery in the region was completed in 2005.
Bouchard Père et Fils produces a wide range of wines across Burgundy and if we have to name the wines that you must not miss, their Beaune 1er Cru Greves Vigne de L'Enfant Jesus will definitely come on top of our list among their reds. It is one of the best sites in Beaune and produces rich and complex wines. For whites, we would suggest the famous Le Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte which seamlessly neighbors Le Montrachet, and also their Chevalier-Montrachet which they own 2.33 hectares of vineyard and produce an excellent Grand Cru Burgundy white with great aging potential.
Today we are happy to offer the L'Enfant Jesus and Chevalier-Montrachet from the 2014 vintage. Arriving in 3-4 weeks with only 6 bottles available each, let us know if you wish to secure these as soon as possible -
Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune L'Enfant Jesus 1er Cru 2014
HK$780 per bottle, 6 bottles available
89-91pts Allen Meadows
Prominent wood pushes the otherwise markedly ripe array of somber and earthy dark berry fruit liqueur-like aromas to the background.. There is good energy to the detailed yet impressively rich flavors that are shaped by firm tannins on the long, deep and complex if slightly dry finish that flashes a hint of bitter cherry. This isn't imbalanced per se at present but it will clearly require time to better harmonize.
Bouchard Père et Fils Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2014
HK$2,100 per bottle, 6 bottles available
93pts Allen Meadows
Discreet notes of wood and petrol add breadth to the cool and pure aromas of citrus, acacia blossom, wet stone and green apple. There is excellent volume and cut to the tension-filled large-scaled flavors that brim with minerality before concluding in a palate staining, powerful and beautifully persistent finish. This is actually quite rich for a young Chevalier and while it should certainly reward up to a decade of cellaring I suspect that in much the same fashion as the Corton-Charlemagne that it should drink well after only a few years.
Subject to final confirmation. ETA 3-4 weeks.
