“If there are any Champagnes that fit the often-used description of “Burgundy with bubbles”, Egly-Ouriet’s would be the leading candidates.” - Peter Liem
“Make no mistake about it, Egly-Ouriet is at the very top of the pecking order in Champagne today.” - Antonio Galloni “No winemaker in Champagne is more precise or meticulous, from vineyard to cellar.” - Willam Kelley, Wine Advocate One of the greatest Champagne growers, Egly-Ouriet produces precise, terroir-driven and expressive Champagne. Francis Egly took over the domaine in early 1980s and is one of the pioneers in the grower Champagne movement. He started to age and bottle his wines in the estate, working with old vines which are over 50 years old and picking the grapes late to enhance the concentration and complexity of the base wines. The Champagne from Egly-Ouriet are Pinot Noir based, aged in oak barrels before bottle aging and Francis Egly prefers extensive aging with lees before bottling and applies low dosage to have complete expressiveness of the wine. We have just purchased a parcel of 2005 Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Brut Millesime which is expected to arrive in 2 weeks. This bottle will definitely offer full characters of the vintage, and is a great wine for drinking now, or for further maturation in the cellar. We are delighted to offer -
2005 Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Brut Millesime

90pts Antonio Galloni
The 2005 Brut Grand Cru Millésime is soft, forward and quite expressive. There is plenty of freshness in the glass, but the wine's mid-weight personality and overall lack of complexity vis-à-vis the best wines here both make me think it is a wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. The lithe, delicate finish is attractive, if a bit out of character for Egly-Ouriet, where the wines are usually richer. Candied lemon, dried apricot, white flowers and mint are some of the signatures. Disgorged: July 2014.
Subject to final confirmation. ETA 2 weeks.
