Château de La Tour is the largest landowner in Clos de Vougeot, currently owning 5.48 hectares of vines, total 6 hectares if including the Château. The Château itself was built in 1890, and today serves as the winery for both Château de La Tour and Pierre Labet wines. Pierre Labet’s son François took over the direction of both Château de la Tour and the family estate in 1984, in which he was actually the first member of his family - which dates back at least 500 years in Nuits-Saint-Georges - to direct viticulture and winemaking in the Clos de Vougeot, as formerly the property was always run by resident managers instead. The Château is the only owner that produces their Clos-Vougeot from the vines within the walls of the Clos, and their grapes are fermented in whole bunches and then matured in French oak barrels for 16-18 months and for 2012, 50% new oak was applied. The quality remains consistent from late 1990s and the qualities have steadily improved over the years and remains an excellent value Burgundy.

A background application of toasty oak frames an airy, pure and markedly ripe nose of beautifully well-layered dark berry fruit and plum where additional breadth is present in the form of dried flowers, spice and earth accents. The seductively textured, intense and muscular big-bodied flavors possess ripe tannins and plenty of dry extract, all wrapped in a balanced, lingering and energetic finish that is a bit less youthfully austere than usual.
92+ pts Stephen Tanzer
Bright, deep red. Very ripe aromas of black cherry, licorice, spices and black pepper. Then closed in the mouth and tighter than the 2013 cuvée classique, with black cherry and bitter chocolate flavors lifted by mint and flowers. Very firmly structured, energetic, long Clos Vougeot with serious tannins saturating the mouth.
Subject to final confirmation. Special offer valid until end of Sunday, 28th Jun 2020. ETA 2nd July 2020 (Thursday).
