Regarded as the final destination for all who fancies Burgundy whites, Le Montrachet Grand Cru rises the highest among the most celebrated white-wine vineyards, not only in France but globally. Consisting of only 8 hectares of vineyards, the oldest vines were planted in 1945 with an average age of 45 years. This is a plot of land that could easily produce a bottle costing HK$40,000 or above, such as that from Domaine de la Romanee Conti or Domaine Leflaive. There is one domaine that we would recommend, one that produces the 2015 Le Montrachet at only 5% the price of Romanee-Conti's, and that is Domaine Baron Thenard -
Baron Thenard Le Montrachet 2015
HK$3,180 per bottle
Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Le Montrachet 2015
HK$69,663^ per bottle
Domaine Baron Thenard is the second-largest propietor of the esteemed Grand Cru, owning about 75 acres neighboring the parcel of Domaine de la Romanee Conti, and another parcel falling close to Chassagne-Montrachet. The owner, Jean-Baptiste Bordeaux-Montrieux, believes in little invention as they try to respect the terroir and the vintage as they are. The Domaine had sold much of its Montrachet to Remoissenet until 2006 but now Jean-Baptiste Bordeaux-Montrieux bottles most of it himself, selling a small portion to Louis Jadot and Etienne Sauzet. A rich and structured Burgundy white that can be enjoyed now or cellared further, we are pleased to offer Domaine Baron Thenard’s Le Montrachet Grand Cru 2015 at a special price of HK$3,180 per bottle. Part of the recolt is sold under the Remoissenet label which is available at HK$6,800 per bottle^ in the market, so this further reconfirms the superb value that Baron Thenard offers versus its counterparts -
