Les Amoureuses is a well-loved appellation, not just because of its romantic name, but also because of its close proximity to the famous Grand Cru Musigny, which is why many believe Les Amoureuses should be a Grand Cru instead of a 1er Cru. In fact, many winemakers serve Les Amoureuses together with the Grand Crus Bonnes-Mares and Musigny, or even after them. Even Clive Coates once said “together with Gevrey-Chambertin's Clos Saint-Jacques, Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses is the prime premier cru candidate for promotion to grand cru. This is already widely acknowledged”.
Due to the scarcity and the supreme quality that the terroir can offer, Les Amoureuses is a veritable treasure trove for Claret collectors and connoisseurs. To head winemaker of Joseph Drouhin, Véronique Boss-Drouhin, Les Amoureuses is the most favorable red and thinks it is "one of the most subtle wines in all of Burgundy" which only around 4 barrels are made each year. Véronique describes his Les Amoureuses with the following beautiful words – “The aromas are always restrained and elegant. On the palate, a wonderful silky sensation, with very refined tannins. Intensity, velvety texture and lively freshness: this well-named wine is a masterpiece of harmony. The aftertaste is very delicate and leaves an impression of supreme refinement."
Today we are pleased to offer the high-scored Amoureuses from 2017, which was awarded 94-96ps by Neal Martin and 18.5 out of 20 by Jancis Robinson; and also the 2014 vintage. Both with limited quantities, at HK$2,800 and HK$2,580 per bottle respectively, these are a worthy addition to your collection of Burgundies -

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru was picked on September 8 and includes 40% whole cluster fruit. What I love about this Amoureuses is that it could not come from anywhere except this prestigious vineyard. The refined floral bouquet is sensual and nicely defined. The harmonious, feminine palate is beautifully balanced, displaying filigreed tannin and a precise, transparent finish that is intellectual as well as seductive. This is a beautifully crafted wine and vies with the Clos-de-Bèze as one of Drouhin’s finest 2017s.
18.5pts Jancis Robinson
So close to Bonnes Mares but so different. This is always refined, says Véronique Drouhin. Estate vines organically farmed. Picked 8 September. 40% whole bunch. Usually 7–8 barrels. Cask sample. Mid crimson. Seductively, delicately scented. Red fruits, not overly sweet-smelling, and a delicate dusty/mineral note. Refined, slim, harmonious and fresh. The length is amazing. Mouth-watering, pure and all tongue-tied on the palate but ready for a long life.
