Joseph Roty has been making wines since 1710 and the production has remained minuscule for over 300 years. The Roty family maintains their very old vines in which some were planted in the 1880s and still use very traditional ways of winemaking to this day. Despite having a very low profile, their wines never fail to amaze everyone and can always show the characteristics of a traditional Gevrey-Chambertin. Their wines usually have high concentration and full of dark fruits' purity, seamlessly integrated with their usual high usage of barrels. Clive Coates MW also commented that Roty's wines are "very distinctive. They are full, very intense, very perfumed and very harmonious. They are certainly immensely seductive.”
We have been following Joseph Roty’s wines in previous years and every time their bottles impress us, especially their village wines which show their lovely fruitiness even when young, offering superb value for money.
“The village wines, including those from Marsannay, routinely outperform most premier crus from the northern Cote de Nuits. And they are reasonably priced” – Stephen Tanzer
Today we are delighted to offer the last parcel of Roty’s Gevrey Chambertin 2016 and also Bourgogne Cuvee de Pressonnier 2015, both great bargains from Joseph Roty from only HK$290 per bottle -
Joseph & Philippe Roty Gevrey-Chambertin 2016
HK$395 per bottle, 10 bottles available
91pts Stephen Tanzer
The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a well-defined, charming bouquet with raspberry, wild strawberry and hints of black truffle. The oak is enmeshed beautifully here. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle tannin, a fine bead of acidity, good substance for a Village Cru with succulent red fruit towards the finish. This is an exemplar of great Gevrey Village. Tasted at the Domaine.
Joseph & Philippe Roty Bourgogne Cuvee de Pressonnier 2015
HK$290 per bottle, 24 bottles available
87-88 pts Stephen Tanzer
Bright, dark red. Lively scents of black fruits, licorice and menthol. Juicy, intense, seriously rich Bourgogne with a medicinal reserve to its black fruit and licorice flavors. Finishes firm and persistent. From vines on the other side of the Route Nationale, not far from the premier cru portion of Pressonnier.
Subject to final confirmation. Arrive on 4th May 2020 (Monday).
