An exceptional Premier Cru in Vosne-Romanée, Les Petits Monts is located right above Richebourg Grand Cru and adjacent to the famous La Romanee Grand Cru and Cros Parantoux 1er Cru. It is only about 3.67 ha but is split between over 20 growers, one of which is the world-renowned Domaine de la Romanee Conti which owns a relatively large and significant plot on Les Petits-Monts. Not many of the growers produce this wine in bottle but instead sells its wine in bulk or sells their vines but the details remain a mystery.
According to Allen Meadows' "The Pearl of Cote", the vines here are sold off to negotiants; and Winehog's Steen Ohman also supported this speculation, saying, “Following Meadows hypothesis, one could take a look at the Vosne-Romanée Les Petits-Monts produced by producers who are not owners of Les Petit-Monts. There are quite a few negociants producing Les Petits-Monts, and while it’s fascinating to guess … I think I will leave the guessing to you the readers”.
A negotiant in Beaune, Roche de Bellene is one of those which offer wines from this gorgeous terroir. Roche de Bellene was established by Nicolas Potel who sold his domaine that was under his own name in 2004 and set up this new business to continue his extensive negotiant journey. His new label Roche de Bellene has continuously guaranteed very high and reliable qualities and is currently one of the best names to follow for Burgundy lovers who look for fantastic value bottles.
Though there's no evidence of the relationship between Domaine de la Romanee Conti’s Les Petit Monts parcel with Roche de Bellene, we still believe this is a fascinating opportunity to explore this tiny but beautiful 1er Cru in Vosne-Romanée at a fraction of the price of its close neighbors -
