We started following this impressive domaine in Chablis after a visit last year. Domaine Laroche has produced remarkable ranges of Chablis over the years and 2014 was no exception. The Domaine is not as well known in Asia as in Europe and North America, where their wines are mostly shipped to, as the Europeans and N.Americans have been following this domaine for years, maybe even decades.
We have selected three of the best from the Domaine – “Reserve de l’Obedience” made from the best site in Blanchot, “Les Clos” always being regarded the best Grand Cru in Chablis and “Blanchot” gives a wonderful value as well as quality.
We are happy to offer these, direct from domaine –
Domaine Laroche Chablis Reserve de l’Obedience Grand Cru 2014
HK$725 per bottle (In 6*75cl)
93-96 pts Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
Very pale green-tinged yellow. Great perfumed lift to the aromas and flavors of white peach, lime, lemon, crushed stone and smoky minerals. Wonderfully silky on the palate but bracing acidity keeps it tight today; really spectacular inner-mouth tension here. Best now on the explosive, pungent, very long lemon-limey finish. Conveys outstanding density and energy without any heaviness.
Domaine Laroche Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru 2014
HK$525 per bottle (In 6*75cl)
92-95 pts Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
Pale bright yellow. Flinty reduction to the aromas of tangy orange zest, smoked meat and gunpowder. Large-scaled and quite spicy, conveying a rather unformed character to its wild flavors of crystallized lemon peel, licorice, flowers and Tabasco sauce. A wine of outstanding density, ripeness and salinity. Laroche's Blanchots is a colder limestone wine, while this is from a hotter site that nonetheless retained superb acidity in 2014.
Domaine Laroche Chablis Blanchot Grand Cru 2014
HK$470 per bottle (In 6*75cl)
92-94 pts Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
Pale bright yellow with green highlights. Raw pineapple, grapefruit and some obvious oak on the nose. Densely packed and supple, with superb purity and intensity to its grapefruit, lime and mineral flavors, with the wine's oak component nicely integrated. Very young but not austere owing to its thickness of texture and depth. The superb slowly building finish boasts terrific energy and enticing subtle sweetness.
Subject to final confirmation. Arrive in early Aug.
