We have been looking at great value Burgundy all the time, sadly it is the toughest job to find great Burgundies at affordable price. A comparatively new and rising domaine in Beaune, Domaine Newman started their business in Burgundy dating back to 1952 and the quality of the wines have been improved year by year. Organically farmed in 2005, the Domaine is owned by American Chris Newman and the wines are made by Jane Eyre, an Australian who has taken an important role in the Domaine.
This is an interesting mixture of Burgundy, American and Australian cultures and considering the perfect condition after lying in the domaine for 10 years, this is one of the best value Burgundy:
Domaine Newman Mazis Chambertin Grand Cru 2006
HK$650/bt (minimum order 6 bottles, only 36 bottles available)
HK$1350/Mag (minimum order 3 Mags, only 12 mags available)
17.5 pts Jancis Robinson
Made by Jane Eyre - an Australian. Pale rim. Quite open and evolved on the nose. Sweet and almost fizzy and with a hint of quinine. Just a little bit dead on the finish. But there is raciness.
Subject to final confirmation. Available in 4-5 weeks. Directly shipped from the Domaine.
