Corton-Charlemagne is a large Grand Cru appellation that lies on the hill of Montagne de Corton in Cote de Beaune. Both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are planted in Corton, however only wines made with Chardonnay are labelled “Corton-Charlemagne” while those made with Pinot Noir are just labelled “Corton”. It is also the “only vineyard in Burgundy bearing the name of two emperors: "Corton" comes from the Gallo-Roman Curtis d'Othon, meaning the Domaine of Othon, a German emperor.

We have just received a parcel of very well priced Louis Latour Corton Grand Cru 2011 yesterday and pulled out a bottle to taste. The parcel of Corton Grand Cru has been owned by Louis Latour and is one of the signature wines from this huge estate. Although it has yet to match up to some of the "top-tier" Grand Crus, at ONLY HK$420 per bottle this is definitely an excellent wine for its quality-to-price ratio!
